ICE Immersion Series 8 - Photography & Sound by Gerardo Montiel Klint

How we translate smell into images? How to translate affection and attachment into photo? How is nostalgia translated into sound?  These are some of the questions that guide this four-day immersive experience. This workshop will open a creative space where participants will experiment with image and sound to explore collectively the porosity of visual and sound media.

His work has been acquired by the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts (Japan), Guangdong Museum of Arts (China), Museet for Fotokunst (Denmark), Museum of Fine Arts MFAH (Houston), SFCAMERAWORKS (San Francisco), Museu de Arte Moderna Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), 320fok Cultural Centre (Hungary), CDAN Fundación BEULAS, Huesca (Spain), Fundación Nave Ka (Spain), Wittliff Collection of Southwestern & Mexican Photography (Texas), Banff Centre For the Arts (Canada), Centro de la Imagen (Mexico City), Fototeca Nacional del INAH (Mexico), Patrimonio Cultural de la UNAM (Museo del Chopo, Mexico), Museo de El Carmen (Mexico), Fundación Cultural Omnilife (Mexico), Fundación Televisa (Mexico) and the Fototeca Lorenzo Becerril (Mexico).

Two Ears and One Mouth: an interdisciplinary workshop on ways of hearing

Soft Spin by Heather Nicol

Soft Spin by Heather Nicol

A workshop conducted by Heather Nicol

In this workshop, participants will explore deep listening through sonic experimentation, audio recording, sound editing and playback. The workshop will culminate in a devised multi-channel sound installation created by the group. Actors, artists, vocalists, theatre devisors, podcasters, musicians, as well as technicians, researchers and curious minds are welcome.

In our digitized and mediated world, this workshop will target the sounds of the human voice as the prime source material for creative play. Inexorably linked with communication, voice is an instrument of tremendous subtlety, power, and universality – and readily available to record, manipulate, and emanate or broadcast.

Film & Collectivity

Art & Collectivity Immersion Series 2

Workshop conducted by Nicolás Pereda.

As part of our series on Collectivity, Nicolás Pereda’s workshop will focus on the process of representation in filmmaking as a collective expression. Together with Nicolás Pereda, the group will draft a film that reflects on representation, reality, fiction and the possibility of transgressing film boundaries by ways of collaboration. The film draft will be the final piece of the workshop and it will be exhibited on the last day of this five day experience.

Nicolás Pereda is a filmmaker whose work explores the everyday through fractured and elliptical narratives using fiction and documentary tools. His work has been the subject of more than 25 retrospectives worldwide in venues such as Anthology Film Archive, Pacific Film Archive, and TIFF Cinematheque. He has also presented his films in most major international film festivals including Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Locarno, and Toronto, as well as in galleries and museums like the Reina Sofía in Madrid, the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the Guggenheim and MOMA in New York.
